That video makes me wonder how serious they are taking their business! Maybe it was just a little humor to break stress like this one:

I agree with your Russian Roulette comment, I think there is certainly risk associated with the LHC. It is definitely possible based on the information you provided that the premise of the entire assessment is based on flawed facts.

Here's a video from my favorite Physicist, Michio Kaku:

But have you read the disclaimer from CERN's SPC Committee that validated the 2008 LSAG Safety Report:

Quote "this argument relies on properties of cosmic rays and neutrinos that, while highly plausible, do require confirmation"

Still sounds like conceivable danger to me... CERN's SPC Committee approval report is available here: http://indico.cern.ch/getFile.py/access?contribId=20&resId=0&materialId=0&confId=35065

I am not aware of any irrefutable arguments for the safety of creating micro black holes with velocities too slow to escape Earth.

Three strongly disputed assumptions… Micro Black holes are created or not, decay or not, grow slowly or not.

I hope I'm miscalculating, but I fear this might be a bit like playing Russian Roulette and not knowing how many cylinders are loaded, none, all?

This is actually test footage from the first DC-9 Series 80 taken out at Edwards/Palmdale in 1980. The first three Series 80s didn't fare very well. The first was used for spin trials and never saw service (too many configuration changes and fatigue issues). The second had a wing failure during cold fatigue testing and this jet was pretty much toast after this max rate decent landing test. Note it passed as this landing was above the design limit and the tail sheered off as planned.

Well, it would be a nice addition to the V-Chip in televisions. I'd be surprised if this is true, but I'd also wouldn't put it past some folks in government... I can hear it now... "Well Boss, it sounded like a good idea in the beginning."

Hey Kenny! I'm not going to open up my Powerbook to check... but you know this is the kind of thing that Jobs would fight so I doubt it is in there. Dell gets a lot of Government contracts so the Feds may have a lot more control over them.

As they say you have to be the lat to break the law. Of course when some of us are paranoid and refuse to be exploited we're considered pirates, hackers, and criminals. Much like DRM (aka copy protection) if you don't need it get rid of it. >:-P

Make it so! The next movie should be about Deanna Troi bringing a Bajoran Pearl to her half sister on Earth, and the high jinx of B4 Data mixed up in the past of their father as an emmisary of Bajor. His writings indecipherable, he is the first emmisary of a long line of emisaries. Bajoran Pearls are special in that the souls of Bajoran's much less anyone else are downloaded at the time of death and passed onto the descendants.

As is, Emily on Earth, her mother does not comprehend what transition there is in death, and the Bajoran Pearl is her link to her deceased lover, Emily's father. Good story, can Abramson do it? In the process, can an android like Data find "true" love?

It's pretty funny when you atleast did it once. Though little kids scream because of it, atleast they will be aware of things from now one, you know. If some people are afraid, it's fine. Because when they go back to that site or whatever they won't be so much afraid.

A note: Always have your volumes down when you're in a screamer site. (:

Our computers suck, but I'm not allowed to throw them out the window. It does make a good visual though. You know, maybe the broken water main two floors above us on Friday will help the situation. If we are lucky, they all shorted out and management will have to replace them. They'd likely replace them with even older computers. If all else fails, we can go back to actually talking to co-workers and customers instead of sending emails. We'll see on Monday morning.
